How To Create An Addon Domain

In this article we will show you how to create an addon domain through your cPanel account.

An addon domain allows visitors to reach a sub-directory of your cPanel account directly by typing the addon domain’s URL into a browser. For example if you create as an add-on domain to your main domain, you will be able to access the sub-directory of your main account, by going to . This will give the appearance of having two independent websites without having to buy an additional webhosting packages on every domain.

**The addon domain will by default create a folder within the /public_html/folder of your hosting package.**

Please follow these steps to add an addon domain:

STEP 1: Login to your cPanel account at

STEP 2: Select Addon Domains

Input the addon domain on the line New Domain Here and the password in its respective field. The other fields will auto populate and select Add Domain **If you are getting an creation error and you are adding two similar domains, e.g. and try changing the Subdomain/FTP Username by adding a number.**

When the page loads you will receive confirmation your addon domain has been created.

STEP 3: Change the DNS settings for the addon domain to point to the correct server.

To change the DNS, login to your UK2 Dashboard at ( for those within CHI)

STEP 4: Select the Domains section

STEP 5: Select the recently added addon domain. Select Reset to default settings

**If your domain is not listed in the domains section you will need to edit the @ record with the current registrar to point at the IP address of the hosting package**

**If you do not see the Reset to default settings the system may have already started the DNS reset** Please allow up to 24 hours for the DNS to propagate, after this time your site will be online.
